New Players
The Beavercreek Youth Hockey Association (BYHA) has excellent opportunities for new players just learning to play or for current players looking to increase their skills with extra coaching and ice time. For a nominal fee BYHA has weekly ice time available from 6:00 AM to 7:00 AM Monday mornings at Kettering Recreation Center and the BYHA can provide free personalized coaching at open skates or drop in hockey times upon request. Creek Hockey Introduces New Coaches
The Beavercreek Hockey Booster wishes to thank Kevin McClure for his years of service to Creek Hockey as a player, assistant coach, and head coach. Kevin's dedication to the program provided many Creek Hockey players the opportunity to experience the thrills of high school hockey. We wish him well with his future endeavers, marriage, and pending relocation. Thank you Kevin.
The next announcement is welcome the incoming head coach who will pick up where the previous staff left off. Coach Greg Flynn comes to Beavercreek following playing for the Lowell Devils of the American Hockey League in 2009-2010 and the United States Air Force Academy from 2005-2009. Coach Flynn’s Academy teams earned three consecutive NCAA tournament appearance from 2007-2009 and he led the nation in scoring as a Defensemen in the 2008-2009 season. Coach Flynn also earned NCAA Skill Competition MVP honors during the 2008-2009 season. Prior to assuming the Head Coaching position at Beavercreek High School Coach Flynn was a coach from the Lowell Junior Riverhawks U16 AAA organization in Massachusetts, specializing in speed and strength development. Coach Flynn is currently serving as a commissioned officer in the United States Air Force at Wright-Patterson AFB.
The assistant coach duties shall be handled by Aaron LaFave. Coach LaFave grew up playing hockey in Dayton for the Gems and Bluehawks (Previous organizations to the present Dayton Hockey Association organization). In high school, Coach LaFave played at the prestigious Shattuck St. Mary’s. Following High School Coach LaFave played at Lawrence University, a Division III school in Appleton Wisconsin and was the Team Captain in 2006-2007 as well as a four year Lettermen. He graduated with a degree in Economics and a degree in Philosophy. Prior to his position with Beavercreek, Aaron helped coach the U16 AAA Cincinnati Steam during the 2010-2011 season. Coach LaFave is a level 4 USA Hockey certified coach.
Creek Hockey Looking For Players!
If you or your child attends school in Beavercreek and is interested in playing the fastest team sport available, Creek Hockey is looking for you! Whether you have played hockey or not, Creek Hockey has an option that fits you!
If hockey is new to you there are plenty of available options. South Metro Sports Ice Rink has open skate from 3-5 pm most Saturdays and Sundays. South Metro also has both U13 and 13+ Stick and Puck times available. Check out their web site at www.smetrosports.com for more details. Next fall and winter Creek Hockey will continue its Future Beavers program Monday mornings from 5:40 – 7:00 am at the Kettering Rec Center to get personalized skating and skills development instruction. There are also a variety of options available for playing on local teams.
If skating is familiar to you, Creek Hockey is offering a skills development camp with the Beavercreek Varsity Coaching staff for all current and future Creek Hockey players this July. Also, South Metro is hosting organized and refereed scrimmages at both the U16 and U18 levels this summer. U16 skates Monday nights from 7:00 – 8:30 pm and U18 skates Thursday nights from 7:00 – 8:30 pm. The Beavercreek Varsity staff is also offering an organized off-ice strength and condition program tailored for your individual needs and fitness level. Questions? Feel free to contact us!
