The Beavercreek Beavers battled with the Troy Trojans in the Championship game of the Kilbourne Invitational at the Chiller North on Sunday, December 6 at 5:40 PM. Both teams were weary from the long weekend of play, plus, Troy was without a senior forward lost due to injury in a prior game. The Beavers were able to shake off the tired feelings to score the first three goals. Kullar gave the Beavers a lift with the first goal just over four minutes into the contest with assists from Stout and Green. With less than thirty seconds remaining in the first period, Green scored an unassisted goal. Green would add another goal early in the 2nd period on assists from Stout and Zach Noble. Troy tried to get back in the game with a 2nd period goal to make it 3-1. Green completed the hat-trick with a penalty shot goal in the 2nd period. The Beavers held Troy scoreless in the third. Cochran finished the Creek scoring off assists from Joe Ives and Mazza to make the final score 5-1. Creek keeper McClure had another exceptional game in net with 18 of 19 saves for a 94.7 save percentage.
Senior Team Captain Green led the Beavers with 10 points on six goals and four assists. His first assist in the Kilbourne gave him 79 for his career and broke Lee McClure's record for assists by a forward. Kullar had six points on four goals and Mazza had four points on three goals and one assist. Beavercreek's record stands at 9-0-0. The nine game win streak is the longest in the 13-year history of the program. The Beavers go on the road this weekend to Indianapolis for some strong competition from Zionsville, Brebeuf Prep, and Carmel. "Homecoming" is Friday, December 18 at 9:40 PM in the Ice Box at the Kettering Recreation Complex against Centerville. The game against their arch rival is sure to be hotly contested after the Beavers shoot-out victory in the Frozen Creek Championship over the Elks who are a very respectable 5-1-0. |
